Film Contest Rules

1. Eligibility

All entrants in the contest must be a “team.” Teams must contain 2 -7 live people. Each team will designate a Team Leader. All Team leaders must be a legal resident or legal visitor of the United States. Student Entries MUST have an adult supervisor age 21 or older.

All participants have to be crazy enough to attempt to create a 2-5 minute short video story during the 2015 Zombcon event using a camera, phone or device that permits creation of such wackiness. All will have a complete entry form and submitted the required entry fee in order to be entered and judged in each category. The following are not eligible: Staff and volunteers of Zombion, Pushing Daisies, The Digital Chemist, and the immediate family members of each (spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandparent, and spouse or step of each) and those living in their same households.

2. To Enter

To register for the Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge, follow the instructions found on www.Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge.com. Registration is based on a first-come first-served basis and space is limited. Early bird registration fees are $25. Late registration fees are $50 or more, depending on how desperate you want to be. Early bird registration begins 3 weeks before a competition and closes 1 week before the competition. Regular registration begins 1 week before the competition and closes 2 days. before the competition. Late registration begins 2 days before the competition and closes after sunrise, October 17th. In honor of the nearly dead, each Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge will commence at sunrise, October 17, 2015 and end on the following Monday, October 19 at sunrise, as the lost souls return to oblivion for another year. As described on the Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge website, no entry will be accepted after the sun has rose on Monday. Don’t even ask pinhead.

4. Refund Schedule

If your team (Entrant) must withdraw from the Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge, because you are just to afraid of what might happen or are some kind of “girly man” refunds will be paid ONLY on the following schedule: Notify Zombicon/pushing Daisies IN WRITING of withdrawal no less than 7 days before competition, you will be refunded $20. No refunds for withdrawal less than 7 days before competition. But seriously, a refund?

5. Participation of Minors

Many of the settings for Zombicon are held in areas that prohibit people under 21 years of age. Every effort will be made to ensure that any under 21 teams will not be affected adversely. Entrants must have at least one member of its team be 21 years or older. NO STUDENT ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED THAT SHOW CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL, EXCESSIVE VIOLENCE, NUDITY, OR PROFANITY. It is the responsibility of the supervisor for all student/minor teams to adhere to these guidelines as well as all applicable local ordinances and laws. Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge, Zombicon, Pushing Daisies and all affiliated sponsors assume no responsibility for students/minors in violation. Student entries in violation of these terms are immediately disaqualified.

6. Team Leader’s Agreement

Entrants will be required to sign the standard Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge Team Leader’s Agreement. If under 18, agreement must be signed by a team sponsor. All student entries must be completed by a team sponsor.

As a condition of entry, participants must agree to the Team Leader’s Agreement, which sets forth the rights of Entrant and Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge with respect to the use of Entries by Zombicon, Pushing Daisies, and Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge. Entries that do not include all required information and adhere to the foregoing and following requirements will be considered void and will not be considered a legitamate entry in Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge. We might watch it, but you won’t get to win anything, so just follow the damn rules.

7. Production Costs

All costs associated with the production of the Entry are solely the responsibility of the Entrant.

8. Judging of Entries

Eligible Entries will be judged based on the judging criteria stated below.

9. Kickoff Event

Entrants must be present at the Burial Party on October 16th. So get your cameras out of the dirt event on Friday, October 16, 2015, at the Sydney Byrne Arts Center in Fort Myers, Florida. If you can’t make it, you must get your secret content by email. You’re an idiot for not being there, but we understand and will have one for you.

10. Basic Requirements of the Project

Entrants must adhere to the Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge rules and regulations. In addition, at sunrise on October 17, 2015, , teams may access a secret website in which they will receive the details to be included in their film and be given exactly 48 hours to make a video (an Entry). Teams will have to write, shoot, edit and upload their 2-5 minute submission no later that sunrise, October 19, 2015. If you submit it late, it is a dead entry. You may be able to resurrect it somewhere else, but if you miss the deadline here, you might as well have your brain eaten.

11. Project Terms of Submission

By submitting an Entry into the Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge, each Entrant warrants and represents that the Entrant owns all rights to the Entry he/she is entering in this Project, including, without limitation, the video or digital recording, and the performance contained in each Entry, with the exception of any assets provided by the Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge for use by Entrants in connection with this Project. Each Entrant further warrants and represents that the Entrant has obtained permission from each person who appears in the Entry to grant the rights to the Project Parties described in these Official Rules, and will submit copies of such permissions to the Project Parties. By submitting an Entry, Entrant agrees to the Official Rules, and further agrees to indemnify and hold the Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge, Zombicon, Pushing Daisies, Project and their respective affiliates, officers, directors, agents, co-branders or other partners, and any of their employees (collectively, the Project Indemnities), harmless from any and all claims, damages, expenses, costs (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) and liabilities (including settlements), brought or asserted by any third party against any of the Project Indemnities due to or arising out of the Entrant’s Entry materials in this Project, or the Entrant’s conduct during and in connection with this Project, including but not limited to trademark, copyright, or other intellectual property rights, right of publicity, right of privacy or defamation. Entrant agrees to release, indemnify and hold harmless Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge and the Project Parties from any and all claims that any advertising, presentation, web content or any other material subsequently produced, presented, and/or prepared by or on behalf of Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge or the Project Parties infringes on the rights of Entrant’s work as contained in any Entry. All entries will be featured for public view. Zombicon and its affiliates reserves the rights to use portions of each submission for future promotion of this and similar events but will not re sell or repackage any submission for sale or resubmission in anyway.

12. Location Participation

Entrants may only include footage acquired/created within 100 miles of the Zombicon event.

13. Designated Team Leader

All groups are required to designate one (1) person as the team leader to enter the Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge and must agree to these Official Rules, sign the Team Leader’s Agreement and accept the prize on behalf of the group. Neither Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge, Zombicon, Pushing Diasies nor any of the Project Parties are liable for any disputes between collaborators arising out of or related to the Project. Team leaders are responsible for all releases of talent and copyright material.

14. Selection of Winners

Entries will be judged in a two tier process; first by a group of Zombicon Orgnaizers—basically a group of people that watch a bunch of horror movies all the time and really like zombie movies, espeically by George Romero, then by a group of four film professionals. Entries will be judged by a process in which each entry will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

Story (beginning/middle/end PLOT) 25%
Costume/Set design & presentation 35%
Following Directions for Entry Content 40%
15. Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge Winner

When you’re the freaking best, you’re the best. ‘Nuff said. Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge BEST OF SHOW will be declared the winner. This entry will be automatically entered in the 2016 Fort Myers Film Festival. In the event of a tie, the tie will be broken based on the highest score in the first Judging Criteria, continuing thereafter to each Judging Criteria in order, as needed to break the tie. Entrants agree that the Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge has the sole right to decide all matters and disputes arising from this Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge and that all decisions of Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge are final and binding unless you want to donate a ton of money and take all the other entrants to George Romero’s house for a huge pizza dinnner.

17. General Conditions

By participating, Entrants agree to these Official Rules which are final and binding in all respects. Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge is governed by the laws of the state of Florida and all claims must be resolved in the state of Florida courts or the Federal courts located in the state of Florida.

18. Limitations of Liability and Release

No liability or responsibility is assumed by Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge, Zombicon, Pushing Daisies or Project Parties resulting from any user’s participation in or attempt to participate in the Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge or ability or inability to upload or download any information in connection with participating in the Project. No responsibility or liability is assumed by the Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge or Project Parties for technical problems or technical malfunction arising in connection with any of the following occurrences which may affect the operation of the Project: hardware or software errors; faulty computer, telephone, cable, satellite, network, electronic, wireless or Internet connectivity or other online communication problems; errors or limitations of any Internet service providers, servers, hosts or providers; garbled, jumbled or faulty data transmissions; failure of any e-mail transmissions to be sent or received; lost, late, delayed or intercepted e-mail transmissions; inaccessibility of the Web Site in whole or in part for any reason; traffic congestion on the Internet or the Web Site; unauthorized human or non-human intervention of the operation of the Project, including without limitation, unauthorized tampering, hacking, theft, virus, bugs, worms; or destruction of any aspect of the Project, or loss, miscount, misdirection, inaccessibility or unavailability of an email account used in connection with the Project. Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge and Project Parties are not responsible for any typographical errors in the announcement of prizes or these Official Rules, or any inaccurate or incorrect data contained on the Web Site or social media sites maintained by the 48 Hour Film Project. Use of Web Site and the Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge social media sites is at user’s own risk. Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge and the Project Parties are not responsible for any personal injury or property damage or losses of any kind which may be sustained to user’s or any other person’s computer equipment resulting from participation in the Project, use of the Web Site or the download of any information from the Web Site. By participating in the Project, Entrant agrees to release, indemnify and hold Zombicon 2015 Film & Video Challenge, Zombicon, Pushing Daisies and Project Parties harmless from any and all claims, damages or liabilities arising from or relating to such Entrant’s participation in the Project. Basically, please don’t blame us if something gets screwed up. We are just trying to do something nice here. Our attorney works pro-bono (when he is out of jail) and we have no money.

19. Winners

Winners will be posted online at www.zombicon.com after the closing reception, on October 23rd. And don’t get all impatient if you don’t come to the reception.
